Michael Jordan’s No. 23 jersey is arguably one of the most iconic jerseys in sports history. Michael Jordan wore number 23 for the Chicago Bulls since he entered the league in 1984. He also entered the league quickly establishing himself as one of the best players in the league. As he progressed, his jersey number became an absolutely iconic jersey number in the NBA league.
Michael Jordan’s number became so brilliantly iconic and sought-after that someone even stole his jersey from the locker room in Orlando before Michael Jordan and the Bulls started playing the Magic. As a result, just as the Bulls took the court to face the Magic, Michael Jordan had to wear an unnamed jersey with a different number.
But the fact that Michael Jordan wore a different jersey number did not affect his performance in the game at all. Michael Jordan put on a signature show against the Magic, scoring 49 points against them. Michael Jordan himself scored more points than the other Chicago Bulls starters. The other four starters combined to score only 47 points, while Michael Jordan scored 49 points alone.
Besides #23, #12 will no longer be the only jersey number Michael Jordan has ever worn. When he returned to the Chicago Bulls in 1995, Michael Jordan decided to try something new because at the time he was wearing jersey number 45, the same jersey number he wore during his short baseball career.
But he soon went back to wearing jersey number 23, especially after Nick Anderson of the Orlando Magic mocked Michael Jordan during the series. Michael Jordan also wore his number 23 jersey back and never wore back his number 45 jersey after that.
